As the area where Catherine started her career, Collectables are an important and enjoyable part of our sales and cover a wide spectrum of items. We have handled and sold some unique lots and some enviable collections.
One collection that springs to mind, is the collection of designer vintage fashion and bags which included names such as Chanel, Hermes, Dior and Prada. This was sold on behalf of The Alzheimer’s Society for a total of just under £16,000.
Under the heading of Collectables we have sold everything from a Papa New Guinea Tribal Dance Wand for £1,100 (plus premium), to a concertina for £2,400 (plus premium) and everything in between!!! However, personal favourites include a rare automaton walking stick which sold for £2,100 (plus premium) at our very first auction and a rare Beatles record player which fetched £1,000 (plus premium).
The most peculiar item we sold was a specimen of penicillin mould from the collection of Alexander Fleming which sold for £4,000 – proving that sometimes the most bizarre items can be the most desirable!! However, it has to be said, that our most notable find to date has been the gold 1894 ‘Hong Kong Plague’ medal which sold for £21,000 (plus premium).
