It was in November 2015 that the Contemporary section of our auctions really took off, headlined by the stunning Venini collection of Glass which sold for a total £25,000 (plus premium.) This private collection was accompanied by works of art by Sonia Delauney, John Piper, Joan Miro and a signed print of ‘Mother and Child’ by Henry Moore which sold for £2,600.
Subsequent sales have included the Richard Channing collection of 20th century design where furniture by Charles Eames, glass by Lalique and ceramics by Keith Murray and Martins Brothers by were commanding high prices. We have also been delighted to sell prints by Dame Barbara Hepworth and Dame Elizabeth Frink.
Since then our sales have always included some interesting private collections of Contemporary design. These themed sections of the sale cover 20th century ceramics, metalware and glass through to furniture and pictures. Studio pottery is also one of the areas that we advise on, with pieces by Hans Coper and Dame Lucie Rie commanding particularly high prices at the moment.
