Buying & Selling at Auction

Selling at Auction

Whilst we understand that selling items at auction can be a daunting experience, our expert team led by Catherine have a wealth of experience and are happy to guide you through the process step by step.

We offer:
A seamless professional and personal service, from when we first discuss your items with you, to when we present you with the proceeds of sale.

A diverse knowledge of both general and specialised items allowing us to fully understand and market your items to the best effect.

Fully illustrated catalogues, both printed and online, where each lot is catalogued professionally and accompanied by a full condition report and a number of illustrations.

Vibrant and exciting auctions. Our professionally trained auctioneers have a wealth of experience and enhance the buying atmosphere, actively managing the saleroom to maximum effect.

A strong network of buyers built up during our combined 50 years in the antiques sector.

Online auctions. All our auctions are able to be followed live online and offer online bidding for those unable to come to the auction itself.  Your items will be available to a truly global auction audience.

A straightforward and transparent pricing policy. Our fee is made up of two elements; a competitive commission based on the auction hammer price, and a minimal photography fee per item.

All these features help ensure that we achieve the highest price attainable when selling your items.

Buying at Auction

All lots can be viewed online in our fully illustrated catalogue, in our printed catalogue and in person either the day before the auction or on the morning of the auction itself.

Bidding at our auctions is straightforward and can be done in a number of ways following completion of our registration process, for which you will need proof of identification.

Bidding in person. Once we have registered your details and allocated you with a numbered paddle you are free to bid in the auction room as you wish.

Online bidding. If you prefer to bid online, all our auctions have a live audio and video feed on the-saleroom.com, Europe’s leading portal for fine art and antiques auctions.  You will need to register directly with the-saleroom.com in advance of the auction to bid online.

Telephone bidding. Once registered as a bidder, you can arrange for us to call you so that you can bid over the telephone, as if you were in the auction room itself.

Absentee bidding. Once registered with us, you can place commission bids, whereby the auctioneer will place bids on your behalf, up to an agreed maximum.  The auctioneer will manage this process directly.

If successful with your bidding, lots can be paid for and collected on the day.  The amount to pay will be the hammer price plus buyer’s premium (plus any additional on-line fees if bidding from an on-line platform).  We are happy to offer an in-house packing and posting service for most non-fragile items, or we can recommend local shipping agents for both domestic and international delivery.
