The auction held by Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers on Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th May 2022 proved a great success with previous house records being broken.

One of the highlights of the sale was an impressive 19th century diamond riviere necklace, graduated and set with 51 diamonds. The piece, originally purchased from Garrard & Co., Regent Street, London in 1948 was estimated at £15,000 - £20,000. After fierce competition from telephone bidders the necklace achieved a hammer price of £47,000 (+ buyers premium) - a new auction house record. Additionally in the Jewellery section an attractive pair of French Art Deco diamond set ear clips, attributed to Cartier sold for £23,000 (+ buyers premium) and a diamond single stone ring weighing 4.92ct sold for £17,000 (+ buyers premium).

Antiques jewellery proved particularly desirable with buyers across the globe; a Georgian emerald and diamond set cluster pendant selling for £5,000 (+ buyers premium); a late 18th/ early 19th diamond, turquoise and rock crystal heart shaped pendant selling for £2,600 (+ buyers premium); a Georgian diamond set ring selling for £3,700 (+ buyers premium) and a late 17th/ early 18th century gold and enamel locket selling for £4,000 (+ buyers premium).

Elsewhere in the sale an interesting Garrard & Co chamber stick, given as a Christmas present by Queen Victoria, by repute to her favourite John Brown sold for £3,800 (+ buyers premium).

A Tekke Bokhara carpet, Turkmenistan believed to be 18th century, created an enormous amount of interest from UK and international buyers. This rare example sold for a hammer price of £10,000 (+ buyers premium).
