Valuations
Overview
If you are thinking about selling with Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers, the first essential step is to acquire a professional auction valuation. Whether you are looking to sell a single item or an entire collection, or obtain a probate or insurance valuation, our expert valuation services provide the insight you need before entering the auction market.
What is an Auction Valuation?
An auction valuation is a professional estimate of what your item is likely to sell for at auction. This is typically presented as a price range (for example £1,000–£1,500).
This valuation range reflects the expected hammer price based on current market conditions and specialist expertise. It is not a fixed price, but a realistic guide to anticipated auction performance.
How Auction Valuations Are Determined
Our specialist valuers assess each item individually, taking into account a range of key factors, including:
- Recent auction results for similar items
- Current market demand and trends
- Rarity, condition, and provenance of the item
- Collector interest and category performance
- Historical sales data and price comparisons
