Sale puts Packham in the Picture

In the latest issue of the Antiques Trade Gazette, our inaugural Collectors Auction on Wednesday 17th September made the double-page spread!

The article discusses our sale of rare and limited-edition children's books, highlighting works by renowned illustrator Arthur Rackham tong many others from a private collection amassed over 50 years.

A standout piece was a 1912 signed limited edition of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, illustrated by Rackham and signed by both him and author J.M. Barrie, which sold for £1700 (+BP). Another notable item was a deluxe 1909 edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales with 40 colour plates by Rackham, estimated at £1800 (+BP).
This sale also included early editions from The Railway Series, including The Three Railway Engines by Rev. W. Awdry, featuring characters later known from Thomas the Tank Engine.

Overall, the auction highlighted the enduring value of literature and illustrations, especially when enhanced by limited print runs, author and illustrator signatures, and historical significance.
