Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers sale held on Wednesday 2nd February was enormously successful with excellent prices across every category of the sale.
An important single owner collection, part of a deceased estate, produced a number of high prices. Some of the highlights included an ancient Egyptian sandstone fragment decorated in relief with a goddess sold for £9,000 (+ Buyers Premium); an Ancient Egyptian wood headrest, sold for £6,000 (+ Buyers Premium).
A finely carved Japanese wooden netsuke, in the form of a monkey and her baby sold for a hammer price of £4,800 (+ Buyers Premium); a rare book relating to Confucius ‘Confucius Sinarum Philosophus Sive Scientia Sinensis Latine Exposita’, sold for £5,500 (+ Buyers Premium) and a Georgian foil backed pendant necklace, with deep blue paste stones sold for £3,900 (+ Buyers Premium).
In the rest of the sale watches proved very popular, with a Rolex ‘Pepsi’ stainless steel automatic calendar bracelet wristwatch selling for £18,000 (+ Buyers Premium); a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King with precision blue dial, sold for £3,400 (+ Buyers Premium) and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King Precision wristwatch, achieved £2,600 (+ Buyers Premium).
