A Rare Cartier Silver Yoko Ono & John Lennon Double Fantasy Box

Musical Auction History

An extraordinary piece of music history is set to go under the hammer as the silver Cartier Yoko Ono & John Lennon Double Fantasy box, with a remarkable provenance, will be offered at our next auction on May 15th. This exceptional item, a sterling silver engraved box, holds significant sentimental and historical value as it was personally gifted by Yoko Ono to John Lennon's ex-bank manager at The Bank of Tokyo shortly after Lennon's tragic passing on December 8th, 1980.

Cartier silver Yoko Ono & John Lennon Double Fantasy box. Going up for sale with Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers on May 15th. Lot 259, Estimate £3,000-£5,000.

Crafted by Schroth's Silversmiths, the rectangular box is elegantly engraved with "Double Fantasy Christmas 1980 N.Y.C John & Yoko," serving as a poignant reminder of Lennon and Ono's enduring partnership and creative legacy. Encased in cedar, the box includes original Cartier accessories such as a blue pouch, outer case, and paper wrapping, alongside a letter from Jerry Caron, bearing the Lenono Studio One letterhead, adding to its authenticity and provenance.

Commissioned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono as Christmas gifts for close friends, it is believed that only 12 of these exclusive boxes were ever made, making this piece an exceedingly rare find. Despite Lennon's untimely demise, Yoko Ono fulfilled his wishes by distributing the gifts after Christmas, ensuring that his spirit of generosity and love continued to resonate.

This unique example, bestowed upon the bank manager at The Bank of Tokyo, carries with it a heartfelt connection to the legendary musician and his enduring legacy. Sold on behalf of the ex-manager, who received the box directly from Yoko Ono on December 30, 1980, this auction represents a rare opportunity for collectors and music enthusiasts alike to own a tangible piece of John Lennon's history.

The upcoming auction promises to attract worldwide attention from collectors, historians, and fans eager to acquire a piece of memorabilia that encapsulates the spirit and essence of one of music's most iconic figures.

Estimate £3000-£5000.
