Rare 1966 World Cup and 1968 European Cup Documents to Go Under the Hammer

Rare behind-the-scenes documents from two landmark moments in English football history, the 1966 World Cup triumph and Manchester United’s historic 1968 European Cup victory, are set to go under the hammer at Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers in the Wednesday 9th September Collectors Auction.

Unseen 1966 World Cup and 1968 European Cup Finals floor managers schedules and programmes will be offered for auction by Catherine Southon Auctioneers & Valuers, Chislehurst in a live auction on Wednesday, September 9th, 2026. The Private Collection which is being sold by the family, is expected to fetch several thousand pounds at auction next month.

The 1966 Jules Rimet Cup is the infamous tournament in which England won its’ only World Cup to date. The script, owned by floor manager and executive producer Bill Ward during the tournament transmission, outlays the domestic ATV coverage for the tournament, including a competition overview, transmission times for all matches, production memos and production schedules. It also includes requirements for team name captions, and individual property requirements. Notably ‘one tan coloured football in VERY GOOD CONDITION’. It also includes dressing room allocations for the ATV frontman and famous television presenter Eamon Andrews, who would also go on to present the edition of This Is Your Life, which celebrated Bill Ward 50 years in television in 1986. It is typed on coloured paper with annotations, and is desirable for its good condition and prominence connected to the 1966 England win. The lot has an estimated value of £800-£1200.

The private collection also includes the 1968 European Cup Finals floor managers programme schedule for Manchester United's historic victory over Portuguese side S.L Benfica. The 1968 4-1 extra time win was the first instance in which an English side won what would become the Champions League. This lot also comprises 1967 FA Cup Final Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea 'World of Sport' I.T.V. Running orders and London Weekend Television World of Sport 'On the Ball' 22nd March 1969 running order and camera script which is typed on paper with pen annotations, estimated value between £300 and £500.
