Catherine's November Round-Up

By Catherine Southon

As the nights draw in and the temperature gets cooler, November has to be one of my favourite months of the year, and this year November at CSAV certainly didn’t disappoint!

We started off the month hosting a lively evening Private View of our upcoming Fine Jewellery and Silver Auction. The evening was a huge success as we drank Cranberry Cosmopolitans and Dark 'n' Stormy's whilst handling some exceptional jewellery. The jewellery on display included Part One of a Single Owner of Enamelled Jewellery including pieces by Carlo Giuliano and Alfred Philips. Although the jewellery was enjoyed, our clients were also thrilled to see the collection of French memorabilia from the French Restaurant Mon Plausir which adorned the gallery walls This collection will be sold in timed auction January.

The Jewellery and Silver auction took place on Wednesday 19th November and was an enormous success. It attracted interest from around the world, and had a 98% selling rate reaching a total way beyond its high estimate. Highlights included a beautiful Carlo Giuliano enamelled bracelet which sold for £9,500 (+BP), a Holbeinesque pendant which sold for £5,000 (+BP), and a stunning diamond en tremblant butterfly which saw of a number of telephone bidders and internet bidders eventually selling for £11,000. Vintage 1960s designer jewellery was also performing well with a citrine abstract brooch by Frances Beck who was a contemporary of Grima sold for £1,800 (+BP).

The silver section of the auction was also strong with highlights including a charming silver and silver gilt egg shaped flask which sold for £1,100 (+BP) and a pair of delightful Arts and Craft Scottish tazzas selling for £950 (+BP).

The month ended with a number of fantastic Valuation Days and Handling Workshops at our HQ in Chislehurst and included discoveries of a Pepsi Rolex, De Morgan Vase
