The History of the Diamond Tennis Bracelet

Originally popularised during the 1920s, these elegant bracelets were traditionally known as diamond line bracelets or eternity bracelets. Their iconic modern name, however, originated from a memorable sporting moment in 1978.

During the US Open, legendary American tennis player Chrissy Evert was forced to pause an intense match after her diamond bracelet flew off her wrist during a rally. The umpire halted play while officials searched the court for the missing bracelet, which was quickly recovered to the relief of both Evert and the crowd. When asked about the interruption, Evert famously referred to the lost piece as “my tennis bracelet”.

Following this highly publicised incident, diamond line bracelets became widely known as tennis bracelets - a name that has remained synonymous with elegance, luxury, and enduring style ever since.
